Mother circle on Courage
Saturday, November 24th, 2018 @ 15:00 - 17:00€10
Opening the dictionary, I read the following description:
Courage (also called bravery or valour) is the choice and willingness to confront agony, pain, danger, uncertainty, or intimidation.
How would you describe courage and what does that look like for you?
Courage comes in different forms and different levels of intensity. We have the one of a child climbing a tree higher and higher not sure how to get back down. We have the one of a Syrian family who flees his home country and leaves everything behind uncertain if it will ever find a place called home again. We have the one of a girl who says no to the young man who wants to touch her. We have the one of a parachute jumper who jumps out of the plain. And we have the parent setting a clear boundary to the child not knowing what kind of tantrum will follow.
All the examples are about stepping into the unknown, not being certain if you will survive, being welcomed, to belong and loved again.
In our next circle we want to look at courage as in having the courage to set your boundaries. To say “no!”. To express what does not feel right to you. To your partner, children, colleague, friend or an unacceptable situation. Speak up!
We believe it is all about respecting and loving yourself.
The following sentence has been taught to me by Marieke van Meijeren. I got tears in my eyes when she spoke them out loud.
She said clear and calm:
“No, I don’t want this, this doesn’t feel right to me, this is where I set my boundary.”
There lays so much strength and power in someone setting his boundary.
Let us meet again and share about courage in our lives. In what do we want to be more courageous? To what do you say “no!” and to what “yes!” And how do you want to be the example of a courageous mother?
Every mother or mother to be is welcome!
