C A R N I V A L | Fences and Circus

Amidst the long-ago historical sieges of Lisbon and the interrupted phenomenon of acculturation which have led us to modernity, who are the invaders and the besieged? The invaded and those who surround them? Where do the influencers, the influenceable and the influenced arise from, in this social network which forms in the streets, giving them body, intentions, and soul? This carnival we’ll be showing off the city’s identity with characteristic peculiarities, characterized personalities and characterizing personas which continuously besiege and are besieged. In this show of sieges, circuses and contrasts, we’ll be presenting opposites as unopposing, diversity as an opportunity, improbable combinations, compatible incompatibilities, remembering that there are no borders without contiguity. Contiguous we celebrate permeability, plurality, and liberty. We’ll besiege you to rescue empathy for you, and besieged, we’ll be the protagonists in future structural sieges.
