W/E Project at Quinta Azenhas: NOVEMBER

Saturday 6th November

With the tides low and the beaches empty, we take to the Atlantic coast to explore some of our favorite local edibles from the cliffs, beach, and gardens here in Azenhas do Mar, before creating some simple and nutritious dishes to taste.  This workshop will begin with an introduction covering safety, best practice,s and tips on identifying key species.  The group will then seek out and respectfully harvest ingredients, before cooking and preparing a light lunch to enjoy together.

Date & Time: 10 am, Sunday 7th November
Duration:  Half Day
Price:  €35 (non-members), €10 (members).  The group is limited to 12 adults.

Note:  This is an introduction to foraging, focusing on local species, and is within the scope of our knowledge and seasonality.  It is not an extensive course into the in-depth and multi-faceted world of foraging.  The workshop will cover; dandelion, nettle, nasturtium, wild carrot, wild leek, rock samphire, shrubby orach, malva, fennel, mussels, goose barnacles (percebes), green purslane, common plantain, New Zealand spinach, and more.

Although kids are welcome to come along and enjoy the space to play at the Quinta, this workshop is aimed primarily at adults interested in the topic and will require their attention.  Children will be charged in addition (€10 non-members, €4 members) with sibling discounts available.

W / E  C R E A T E : Inspirational & Edible Festive Reefs
Saturday 20th November
As we look ahead to the holiday season, our impressive nature-inspired reefs are a first nod to building your winter store, as well as a creative opportunity to make a personalized decoration that will help inspire a more sustainable approach to the festive season.

In this 2 hour workshop, you will learn how to craft a festive reef using organic herbs, that over time will dry to create something that is equally useful as it is beautiful – your own dry herb store.  We will harvest and supply a huge range of herbs, spices and natural materials from the gardens here, teach you how to create your reef base and then build and customize with a selection of materials, and of course festive hot drinks will also be provided.

Date & Time:  2pm, Saturday 20th November and Sunday 21st November
Duration:  2 Hours
Price: €30 (non-members), €10 (members).  Sibling discounts available.

Note:  All materials, decorations and finishes are included as well as spiced hot drinks, and you will leave with your own festive reef to hang.

W / E  P L A Y : Wild Flower Seed Bombs & Water Games
Saturday 27th November

A muddy, messy, workshop that’s perfect for kids aged 1 to 12, which aims to create beautiful flower meadows that’ll encourage birds, butterflies and bees and improve the soil quality.
During this fun 90 minute workshop, children will learn the importance of wild flower meadows, as-well as the processes for harvesting and collecting seeds, and digging their own soil and clay to churn into a special seed bomb mixture.  They will shape the seed bombs as creatively as they desire, readying them for action!  The bombs can be taken home to use in the garden or park, spreading blooms further afield or, the kids can take part in seed bombing the Quinta’s picnic area through a range of water based games and fun activities.

Duration:  90 minutes
Price:  €15 (non-members), sibling discounts available.  Free to members

Note:  Children should be accompanied by an adult, and be wearing clothes that can get wet and messy and also welly boots.  We advise you bring a fresh change of clothes.
