Part of our journey and commitment in empowering women worldwide, and capturing the vibrant energy of the digital age and its forthcoming communities, MUXIMA curates and regularly hosts an exciting gathering of women and men keen in the exploration of knowledge. By sharing stories, experiences, thoughts, and thesis in a genuine interpellation of inspiring contribution, the SECRET WOMEN’S MEETING intention is to openly create discussion and reflection set towards the imaginable future while contributing to urgent matters of the present.
Periodically hosted in Lisbon at the premises of the MUXIMA Gallery, the unique MUXIMA habitat is transformed into an informal and safe environment to foster an activity between learning and thinking – mainly contemplating topics that might not have a voice in mainstream public agenda setting, and addressing such diversified arguments as Consciousness In Business or Gender Neutral Apparel.
With an extensive social and political intervention portfolio, MUXIMA conceives this event by challenging women from all backgrounds and areas of expertise to participate with a moment of lecture, resulting in an honorary secretive society, concerned to disrupt and discontinue the status quo. In its core, women with no affinity of opinion and from distinct areas of professional intervention are selected to share their most radical personal approaches to the future of society.

For the beginning of this new year, MUXIMA decided to open its doors to the director Pocas Pascoal, and to promote critical thinking about the consequences of the Civil War in Angola, through the screening of the film “Alda and Maria, Por Aqui Tudo Bem”, in the on January 24 at 6:00 p.m. Contrary to previous editions of the Secret Women’s Meeting, this event will be held at the Institute of Social Sciences (ICS), part of the Social and Audiovisual Sciences cycle, at Av. Aníbal Bettencourt 9, at the Sedas Nunes Auditorium.
The drama performed by Pocas received several nominations and won numerous national and international awards, among them the European Union prize at the Festival FESPACO 2013, best actress for Ciomara Morais at the Carthage Festival 2013, best sound at the Festival Colors of Ethyopia 2013, best long -meeting at the Los Angeles Film Festival 2012, TAP award for best Portuguese feature at INDIELisboa Festival 2012, best actress for Ciomara Morais and Cheila Lima at the Khouribga Festival 2012 and best Angolan feature at FIC Luanda Festival 2011.
“Alda and Maria, Por Tudo Tudo Bem”, features the participation of actresses Cheila Lima and Ciomara Morais. This feature film, which debuted in 2011, tells the story of two sisters, 16-year-old Alda and Maria, 17, victims of the Civil War in Angola, who came to Lisbon in the summer of 1980 in hopes of a more promising future.
Already in Lisbon, the sisters settle into an old boarding house, without any protection from an adult. Alda and Maria, full of hope, yearn for the day when their mother could join them. However, the weather turns out to be ungrateful and the progenitor does not come cannot escape from Angola and come to Portugal.
Alone, and with almost no money at all, young women have to find a means of subsistence.
