We live in a world where we are constantly ‘on.’ We rarely get time to switch off and just be. Stress comes at us from everywhere: work, family, relationships, high-intensity exercise, even breathing incorrectly puts stress on our body. With this workshop Filipa invites you to just be.
The Ashtanga yoga practice starts with physical postures in a specific sequence combined with breathing techniques to open the body and burn away the negative effects of stress. The internal heat that is created in the body as it moves in time with the breath from posture to posture, allows the impurities, tightness and stress to slowly and surely dissolve. Each movement or vinyasa, to get from one posture to the next, flows in time with the breath and are just as important as the postures themselves so that our minds are completely absorbed in the movement of the body.
This course is designed to ensure every student who comes to this workshops can have a good understanding of the ashtanga yoga practice, tradition and philosophy. The practice of the Ashtanga Yoga is based on the 8 limbs of yoga and this is the foundation of the practice. That is why we are talking about a method. And this method is based on 3 principles, the 3 pillars of the Ashtanga Yoga.
About Filipa
Filipa started practising Ashtanga Yoga in 2004 at Casa Vinyasa with Isa Guitana and Tarik, her primary teachers. Since embarking on this new journey through yoga, the experience has been both rewarding and challenging.
Since 2013 she travels every year to Mysore, in India, to study with her teacher ParamaGuru, Sharath Jois. During her fourth trip to Mysore, her teacher granted her the honour and blessing to teach the traditional method according to the KPJAYI.
In parallel, Filipa is studying Ayurveda and learning about the yogic lifestyle. She keeps up her love for writing in her blog Yoga-me. Her articles have become a book, which was released and published in Portuguese in 2016 with the same name.
Filipa is known for her dynamic and transformative classes in which her students learn the great purpose of practising yoga: the opening of the heart.
At the moment she lives in Cascais with her family and still travels to Bali for retreats as well as participates in various wellness events as a yoga teacher as well as a speaker. She is an ambassador for Wanderlust Portugal and started a new project in 2018 bringing the Bali vibe to Europe with the Portugal Spirit Festival.
