Workshop de Indigo e Shibori

The Workshop aims to teach the origin and historical context of Indigo as its indispensable preparation. In its usual state, the indigo is not tingible, and therefore needs a chemical alteration. What makes this process “a true alchemy of colors.”

We will use natural pigments such as Indigofera tinctoria from Tamil (India). We will approach a selection of recipes created since the eighteenth century, when the dye industry used only natural pigments before being threatened by the synthetic.

After preparing Indigo’s baths, let’s explore some of the Shibori techniques, the Japanese stamping technique, which uses the resistance method to create prints made with the Indigo.
